Sorry! I know there are a million threads. BUT, I have searched and I can not find the number for Valles? I had it yesterday and misplaced it. If anyone has this number I would be very grateful
"How long are the shuttles? Shuttles from Sand Island to Mexican Hat take one hour, while shuttles from Sand Island to Clay Hills take 4-5 hours. Commercial outfitters provide the shuttles for a fee. Shuttle Service Providers: Sand Island to Mexican Hat - Valle's Trading Post 435-683-2226. Sand Island or Mexican Hat to Clay Hills - Blackhawk Transportation, 435-678-3224. Jim Hardin 435-672-2455."
I talked to Valles yesterday, the prices almost doubled for Sand Island -> MH, and the guy was a complete ass. Either way you'll still want to store your vehicle at Valles, there are lots of miscreants that congregate at the MH takeout. Jim charges the same but was actually bearable to talk to. If anyone is interested in sharing a shuttle tommorrow evening/afternoon that would be great to save some $$...
Has anyone had the pleasure of talking with the old-timer at Valles? He speaks with the aid of a voice box and was telling us stories of the good ole days when he used to run the San Juan in the 1940s @ 20,000 cfs and not see a sole on the river for months. Saw him two years ago but last year he wasn't there. Anyone know if he's still around?
Richard is the name of the old man at Valles. I talked to Jim about him in March at it sounded like he was still hanging in there. He is a joy to speak with, he ran the river through Glenn Canyon before the Damn Dam. Legendary. He's a good guy from everything I have seen and heard.
Valle's deals with a ton of people year in and year out...not to defend them and their recent asshole behavior, but John Q. Public can be a real pain sometimes.
From my understanding Jim is taking care of the Clay Hills shuttles and Valles is running the SI to the Hat leg this year. Try the other lodge there in town if Valles price is too steep, they were runnin the short shuttle as recent as a year and a half ago...possibly they still are.
x3 on Jim Hardin. you're car will be locked up at Valles and he's a cool guy and super good at what he does
