Are you doing the same trip that just ended for my friends and me? You are asking about all the same sections we just did.
No wood issues when we were there last week. The playpark was the most exciting part of the run. As you enter the canyon it mellows out a bit, but the dams provide fun. When we were there, there was enough water not to be concerned about where you went through them. At lower flows I hear you need to pay a little better attention. It would be nice if the run was a few miles shorter. I was ready to be done.
Consider Lake City. We had a great time there. Friendly people. The town section has been improved since the descriptions were written. It's like a 5 mile long play park. The Box was scenic, but lacking in entertainment but for all the wood. Would have liked to done Red Bridge, but not enough time on the last day.
"Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things that you didn't do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover." - Mark Twain
