Ruby-Horsethief level late sept?

Wahoo! Got my permit for Westwater, but thinking of starting on Ruby Horsethief. Is the waterlevel okay for this? We're bringing a gear-raft for 2-3 days before Westy.

Ruby Horsethief will be beautiful at the end of September and will definitely have enough water to float your boat. There might not be much current, but if you get on the water at a reasonable time (by early-mid afternoon), you'll be at Mee Canyon or Black Rocks enjoying happy hour within a few hours. Count on another 2-3 hours from there to get to the Ranger station on your permit date and, if time permits, spend the night in the canyon before you run the rapids.

Have a blast!

3-4+ hours to Black Rocks. Another 3-4+ hours to Westwater at those flows in a raft. I'm an oaring fool, but the water is flat much of the way, and the wind will pick up in the early afternoon most of the time. Get a much earlier start than was suggested if possible.

Last week we left at 8:15am from Black Rocks and got to Westwater at 10:15am. No wind, and no hard rowing. Just a steady, easy pace at the oars got us there in plenty of time.
