A couple of us are leaving from the Springs at around 8AM to do the Gorge. That would put us at Tunnel Drive around 9:15-9:30. We're looking to do an earlier run so we can get back to town at a reasonable time. If anyone is interested in joining us for the paddle and shuttle give a holler.
If you feel comfortable on those runs then I think you are fine for RG at this level. I'd be happy to have you join us. Doing both Parkdale and the RG at this level is a pretty long day. We're just interested in the RG. It will be more relaxing with more time to play.
We should be at the takeout on Tunnel Drive at 9:30 AM. That should put us on the water around 10:30. MikeG, who's done the Gorge far more than I, figures it usually takes 3 hours for the run. Both my buddy Elliott and I have things to do back in the Springs by 5:00 and we want some time to spare.
I've run the Gorge quite a bit but only twice in the last couple of years and Elliott hasn't run it in a long time. So we'll at least stop to look at Sunshine. Sledgehammer can be pretty well boat scouted but we'll stop if needed.
I'm a RN working their typical long hours. As such I won't be available much tomorrow at all and none by phone. I usually get a chance to check emails around 7PM but that's it. I'll put a link to mapquest below that shows Tunnel. You'll be taking I-25 S through the Springs to Canon City anyhow so you could meet us at the intersection of Uintah and I-25 and then either follow or ride with us. Let me know which you prefer.
My cell for Thurs AM is 719-330-8228. See ya soon.
Since you have the extra drive time from Denver. Let's meet at I-25 and Uintah at 8:30. There's a Coaltrane Liquor store just east of the intersection when you get off. It will be on the North by the 7-11. We'll meet in the parking area on the West side of the store. It's easy to find. See ya then.
Mike thanks for the beta on tunnel drive when we did the gorge before we paddled all the way to centenial park and since we are planning to do both Parkdale and RG avoiding a mile of flatwater will be good.
Ben, Mike, sounds like you have a plan, enjoy but don't hesitate to contact me if anything changes. We were planning to meet at the take out at about 9:00 so maybe we will see you while setting up the shuttle.
Would it be better for me to bring a bigger car to help with shuttle (can hold 2 kayaks inside and one on top and 2 people) or a smaller car that can just hold one person and their gear?
