Royal Gorge 6th, 7th or 8th of June
(719)661-4377 Call me, I don't have internet at my house anymore.
Looking for class IV boater(s) who wants to run the Gorge. If you have not yet run it at this level, I can show you all the lines. That said, you will exercise your combat roll and please have air bags in the boat just in case.
(I could be talked into Parkdale, Browns Canyon or Numbers as well.)
Let me try to talk you into the Gorge.
.....Sunshine is much easier at this level than you think; that big hole at the bottom on the right is GONE!)
.....There are almost NO exposed rocks in any of the rapids. Yep, even the 5 foot high rocks are under the water.
.....Sledgehammer is now the biggest rapid on the trip as it awakens to all it's name-sake glory, although Clark's hole at the bottom right is pretty much flushed out.
.....Wallslammer is EASY at this level. That big grabby hole (river right) just upstream of the wall is just a (surf?)wave and the hole on the top of the wall (at the start of the left curve) is gone as well. Or, you can run the whole rapid middle (class III) or even river left (III-).
.....With no scouting or play, we can be at the take-out in 75 minutes, but we can scout and play on anything you desire, no rush.
.....The 2nd half of the Gorge (Below Wallslammer) offers long standing wavetrains with waves +5 foot. Especially the 1/4 mile after Lion's head.
I'm not saying the dayon the Gorge is a cake-walk, but it is big fun if you are a Class IV boater.
"So in two seconds, away we went, a sliding down the river, and it did seem so good to be free again and all by ourselves on the big river and nobody to bother us." -Mark Twain (The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn)
