Royal Gorge

Does anyone know if there will be enough water/ice free in royal gorge the first or second week in march? It's my first spring out in CO and itchin to get back in my boat even if it's a hypothermia run

Yes, you will be able to run the Royal Gorge the beginning of March. Could probably run it now, but would definitely want to put on after a mild night. Hard to say what the flows are going to be. Currently the BOR is releasing water from Twin Lakes and the Gorge is running around 600 cfs. Last time water was released over the winter they cut back the flows in April, about a month before runoff starts. However, you can run the Gorge at native (base) flow.

Usually the AHRA/BOR update this page: WaterFlow Announcements, when changing water releases.

I doubt it will be a hypothermia run if you dress properly and stay in your boat. People have been running Numbers and Pine Creek all winter....

For some reason the waterflow announcement page never told us about the increase from 200 to 300 from Twin Lakes this winter. Rdnek says he thinks they're cutting back to base flow? on 2/21 which would make this weekend the last of 350 in the Numbers and whatever that translates to in the Gorge.

Went down the Gorge yesterday. It was practically ice free. There were a few rocks that had an inch or less of ice on them, above the water line. It seemed to be about 600, but I didn't check any gages.
