Plan B's or C's

I had a trip planned with my Dad to spend a good 3 days or so on the Deschutes (Harpham Flat to Sandy Beach section) with a bunch of relatives. It was set to be a grand old time and now the Devil himself is unleashing his Fires (literal and figurative) on our plans. As the smoke drifts off into the hazy sky so do my best ideas.

Anyways I'm wondering if my so-called father bails on me does anyone have recommendations of good places where a competent intermediate paddler could go show up solo and easily find like-minded individuals who might allow a stranger to yak it up with them? What came to mind was someplace in the gorge like the White Salmon. Would love to hear any and all suggestions that are reasonable knowing my pertinent background information (I'm in Tri-Cities) thanks
