Hey Western Slope paddlers got a couple of Denver packrafters and some Montrose Ik'rs heading over to run the bottom 10miles of Anthracite Creek this Sat. It is a really fun and no drama, non-stop class II+ to III- run at this level. Will probably be down to 1000cfs by the time we put on Sat. afternoon. Got a much bigger group heading to the SanMiquel on Sunday after this little gem. This run will crash hard by next week and be done by the first part of July. Call Gunther at 970-497-6512 if interested!!!
Meeting at the small parking lot at the intersection of Hwy. 133 and turn-off for Kebler pass at 10 a.m. for anyone else interested. This will be our last run on this for this year, will do a small hike in before we run the usuall 10 mile stretch!!!
I can't make this Saturday but was curious how low this would go in a ultra-light cat? Also is there enough traffic to hitchhike or should I plan a bike shuttle.
Hey Gunnerman,
I am going to be out that direction and would love to join your trip. I will be in a 10' Sotar cat. I scouted this roadside a couple months ago and it looks like a great run. I will plan on being at the Hwy 133 turnoff at 10am or before. We are heading out from Evergreen this afternoon at some point and are staying in Paonia. My name is Craig and my cell number is 720-883-1387. I have a Dodge truck with the cat on top.
Rich, this run is good for a small cat and looks like fun in a beautiful canyon. You have a 12' cat if I recall correctly from brief interactions a couple of years ago. There are some bridges but I don't remember them looking like an issue. I think hitchhiking wouldn't be too hard, especially this time of year.
See you Saturday morning Gunnerman. Call me if you have any questions or want to chat.
Craig
Hey Rich, I just had a nice chat with Craig about several very tight spots on this run. Our group runs mostly Ik's, packrafts or hardshells so we can get thru just about anything, cause wood does move around in this rather shallow creekbed, with many braids in the middle section. Very little traffic on Kebler Pass except during peak summer months, but not a hitchhiking option. Biking may be an option but road does get somewhat rutted and choppy at times. Rich give me a call and I can give you lots more input, cause I really am very old-school and just prefer talking on the phone. Thanks!!!
So how did the run go?
Might be over that way this week.
Don't mind tight or portage.
Gunner, I'll give you a call.
Craig, Remember talking but we never connected.
Do you do Clear Creek? It's my backyard run.
