I am comfortable in a kayak on Marsh and thought I could go a day early and scope it out. GPS the logs. maybe swing an axe a bit....Run it in a few hours then I could run/hike out in about 5 hours and consult with the group. if it is ugly we bail. I'd come back for my boat later. If it is good we run the cats down and pick up the kayak.
any reason this is insane?
I will hit up a couple of the better kayakers in my crew and see if they might join you. Instead of an axe or in addition to - one of those bitchin little fold out saws would be my weapon of choice.
Had to look it up. Silky Sugo 360 or 420 is on my wish list.
Best hand saw I have ever seen.
I would love to see you have a partner if you decide to go. I can't speak to your comfort level or experience but have no issues with the right folks solo boating as such. With the dammed logs in there and the unpredictability of how they move when force is released off of them....that is why I would love to see you have a partner. I will check with a couple of buddies. I am not up for it as my kayaking days ( not to mention the walk out would be impossible for me right now) haven't been many in the last ten years.
I will let you know any info I glean.
Reread your post to see: you are more interested in marking the logs than getting them out.
