North Shore Paddlin

Does anyone out there have any reliable beta /contacts for runnung lake Superior runs. Myself and a couple other lads are gonna go explore this area around April 15. I have the guide book and it looks suprisingly awesome. You can hit 3-4 class IV rivers per day. They look short but theres one every few miles up the Shore. Any would help.

I'd use the search feature. I remember a blog or website about some creekers up there. It looked good. You might google for a retail shop and john kiffmeyer (from Valhalla, not sure on spelling). I've seen that guidebook as well. It looks like a very cool trip.

north shore or south shore

The south shore just north of hurley to ontonogin has some interesting water falls, iron river, sturgeon river, tahquamenon falls is two really big drops but beware of the park rangers (you might be able to ask for "Blake" he used to be a cool dude at Lake State, but the power of the state park may have gone to his head), also check out 13 falls on the pier marquette river (there are more than one pier marquette rivers in michigan), porcipine mountain state park has some nice sandy beachs with 6 foot breakers but the water is really ice cold. You maybe able to find some guys at Northern Michigan Univerity, or Michign Tech that boat and may want to show off for you and show you some sick local spots. The northwestern shore has lots of good stuff check out this book Northwoods Whitewater : A Paddlers Guide to Whitewater of Minnesota, Wisconsin, Ontario, and Michigan by Jim Rada

north shore paddling

You need to check out the local website and their forum which is: rapidsriders.com . As of today the creeks near Duluth are starting to go. Guys are already posting about creeks being runnable this week. As April progresses the creeks will start opening up and running farther up the North Shore to the border of Canada. Lots of options. If you post on their forum they will be very helpful and willing to hook up with you. Plenty of steep creek action all along the shore. The Baptism River has a very easy access park and huck clean 35 footer into a deep pool (Illgen Falls). You literally can pull off hwy. #1, carry your boat 50 yards on a state park maintained trail and huck away. Anyhow, the way to get specific beta is to post on the rapidsriders forum and you should have no problem getting specifics and hooking up with local paddlers if you want.
