Multi Day self support in Colorado???

Hey duders and dudettes. One of my good paddling buddies will be in Colorado around the may, june time. I am hoping to round up a few people and meet him out there for a few day self support trip. Not looking for a big one, just 1-3 nights would be awesome. I'm wondering if their are any options available in that region? We are from the southeast, and as many gnarly creeks as their are, there are not too many multi day trips out in this area. We are all solid class IV boaters and looking for a trip that has a nice mixture of rapids. (not looking to drop waterfalls or any major class V rapids). We would be doing the Gauley or New River in this area but they are almost too short to justify a multiday trip. If you know of any good trips that would be pretty reasonable to drive to CO that would be greatly appreciated!!

Cheers fellas.

Does it have to be self support? If not, there are some quality marathon stretches you might be interested in... including the Ark, the Poudre and Clear Creek.

Other than the Dolores and Animas you might also want to look at the Gunnison Gorge (sounds like Black Canyon just above might be a bit much).

The premier overnight in the region is Westwater, which would be a great introduction to the desert for you. It is located just over the border with Utah and requires and a fairly easy to obtain permit.
GARNA’s mission is to foster stewardship of the resources of the greater Arkansas River region through education, volunteerism and experiences.

You think this is California or something? These guys pretty much covered it. I would also add Lower Laramie Canyon as a possible fit in WY. None of these runs are really mandatory overnighters but all can reasonably done as such.

If I was choosing one in CO that best fits your description, it would definitely be the Upper Animas. But if I were you, I'd just keep on driving into California multiday heaven.

Piedra is a good self support also. Hard to beat Upper Animas for an overnighter in CO though
