Montrose Whitewater Park and Town Float: Status?

How are the Montrose Whitewater Park and the Montrose town float now? I am a bit of a beginner, but I have done both previously. I am just wondering what the conditions are like.

Hey Dave, I'm the guy who took you down the town run last year and played a while at the water park with you. You did very well for it being your first season. Anyway, the water level is still rather low, with maybe feature #5 & #6 having some kind of curler wave. Weather forecast is looking dry and very cool for mid March; I'd give it at least another 2 weeks before heading over. Really need some warmer daytime temps but the outlook is upper 50's and low 60'sfor awhile yet. Will keep in touch. Keep in touch with Ty Tanner over in Junction for a great paddling mentor.

Thank you very much. A friend and I, who are at about the same level are doing the Grand Junction town float tomorrow, and we are looking for a place to go on Wednesday. We are a bit limited because my friend has to drop off his kids in Junction at 8 am and pick them up at 4 pm. For warmth on the river, we have farmer john wetsuits and semi-dry tops. I had originally picked out Montrose because the fly fishing websites say that the water is warmer there than just about any place else. Do you have any suggestions on where we should go?

if you are new to kayaking the park is at an ok level to work out your stuff i.e.. eddy turns, ferrying, small wave surfing/spinning,etc....#1,2,3,5&6 all have interesting but small features ...I would say go for it get as much time in as you can before runoff. You will be that much further ahead for when paddling season really gets going....the town run is low but doable...kudos to the designers this park is so well done!!!thanx!!

Hey Dave, I will stick to my original assessment of the river. Ckecked again today, really low and town run has 2 spots that are extremely bony (less than 1 ft. of running water), just not worth it dude. Please pm. me your contact # so we can chat, have already got many runs planned for the year. The Billy creek section of the Uncompaghre should be your next step up. We have a great group of 10 kayakers in our group doing mostly 2+ to 3+ stuff. My contact # is 970-497-6512, give me a buzz. Maybe look at Gunnison from Delta to Whitewater or run Colorado down further past Junction. Chow!!!!
