Clark Fork River:
Like Glenn's linked pics--not my pics, not necessarily of whitewater, but fairly typical of geology and general climate.

Honestly, the best floating in NW MT isn't around runoff, so don't feel like you'd be missing anything. The MF Flathead whitewater rapids are mostly river bottom/rocks and it gets washed out around peak runoff. The NF Flathead gets a bit bigger around peak, but it's fast and cold. They are both more enjoyable with lower flows, sunshine, and family. Probably at their best in early July, but late summer floats with crystal clear water and hot days are awesome, too. Neither gets awfully bony and September floats are still do-able. Spend your time around June in other areas--your Lochsa plans are absolutely a good idea.
