What about the Upper Blackfoot/Blackfoot? It's an hour farther from Missoula--could one camp at the fishing access sites? I'd hesitate to do it during the peak of the season, but I doubt it would pose a problem this time of year.
The North Fork can get some log jams between Polebridge and Coal Creek. It's very braided in that area--and also has gorgeous views into the west side of the Park--but the rest of the river is relatively open.
The Middle Fork has very few strainers except for at peak flood. It's not too technical--you can line up at the top of every rapid and ride the green tongue through. If you've run the Gorge, the MF is about half a class easier--but the water is GORGEOUS turquoise blue.
If you run either of these, I'd trade you for a shuttle, if you want to return the favor on one of your local rivers.
