There is a lot of flat water on this float in August. Take twice the drinking water you think you will need for a first time float.
It is a great float. Recommended for sure.
I did this float in august in a kayak with a couple buds in a 14 ft oar rig carrying the gear.
The raft owner rigged up a stern mount for a small outboard. He used the very low HP outboard above and below Cataract. I could keep up or pass him in my Response kayak, speed is not the issue, rowing is.
I realize you macho types out there can row the flats (especially the lake part) and my hat is off to you folks.
I would never ever do the Mineral Bottoms down and across the lake raft float with out a motor (it does not take much horsepower !!), especially in August when the temps soar. After we rowed / paddled the big drops, I climbed aboard the raft and we slowly motored across the lake. The raft was set up for folding chairs and cook space, which made it even better. This is the scenic relaxed way to do that part of the trip.
