Mulie Point

Its a bit of a drive (just above the moki dugway) but Mulie Point is an amazing free unregulated camp spot with tons of room and killer views!

It is technically illegal to camp at Mexican hat, but I have several times with the ranger's blessing. I think they want to avoid multi-day local partying more than anything.

I'll second camping at Gooseneck Park because of this view, it's cool to look down on the river you will be traveling through also.Click image for larger version

From BLM website:

"Mexican Hat (27 river miles downstream) is the second launch point or a take out if you launched from Sand Island. The boat launch ramp is identified by a small sign on the east end of town. We do not recommend camping or leaving your vehicles at the Mexican Hat launch ramp due to some vandalism problems that have occurred in the past"

Which is pretty much what it has always said. Since we never leave cars there and have someone in the camp while we get ready it has never been a problem. Leaving a car for a week, or a pile of expensive gear laying around may not be a good idea.

Valley of The Gods is a true slice of heaven. Drive back several miles from the hiway, near some of the big towers, pop another cold one and say "aaaahhhh..."
