Mee Canyon alcove

Were doing Ruby/Horsethief next week and want to hike up Mee Canyon to the alcove. I searched for info on how long of a hike it is from the river, but found only about doing it from the mesa above, apparently about 2.1 to 3 miles from that trailhead. It appears from maps that it could be 5 to 8 miles each way.
Anyone know the mileage from the river? We will have a layover here, knowing that its likely a longer day hike. thanks..

Call the BLM office in GJ and ask for Wayne in the McInnis NCA office. He'll know and he's a great dude.
