Main Salmon day trips

Greetings All,

I was thinking of heading to ID this weekend to do a couple day trips on the Main Salmon River before the River of no Return section. Does anyone have any info on this region? It looks like there is a good stretch of river before corn creek and the permitted section. I have heard of the "Pine Creek Run" from Pine Creek access to Panther Creek, but it is only 7 miles. Is this pretty good? Are there any river camping spots or is it all private land? Are there any other sections worth floating around there? Does not need to be whitewater, but a fun scenic section that is longer than the 7 miles or including this Pine Creek Run. I checked the Idaho Whitewater yahoo group and could not find too much info, and there is not much in the guide books. It would be the wife and I on a 13' raft. Thanks for any help.

Oh and one other thing....can you pick up one of those invasive species tickets in the town of North Fork, or do you have to voyage to the town of Salmon? We would be driving over from Chief Joseph pass, so North Fork would be the first town in ID...

I don't know how much it gets run but you can put in at North Fork and go to Cache Bar or Corn Creek. About 30 miles maybe.

I don't think you can purchase them in NF, but could be wrong.

I have a couple extra and Chip sent me one or two last year so I am happy to mail one over - as in free. Pm me with addy, and if I mail it tomorrow you should bet it Thursday or Friday. Don't know if that works.

The Pine Creek section probably has the biggest rapids on it, but I would love to float this stretch someday myself.

A lot of the river left side is public land, but there are pockets in there that aren't. When the road is on the river left side, much of that is private.

While I wouldn't want to camp in someones yard, high water mark to high water mark is public land. There are lots of beaches in there that you could over night if you wanted and be away from people and the road to a certain extent.

Good luck.
