Main Salmon above 30000

Looking to run main next week. Flows look like they are going to be above 30k. Any idea what this river looks like at this level?

Can't tell you about running at that level, but I will say to watch out for wood.
Here in Salmon the river has come up 3 feet since the weekend and it's just beginning to flush all the debris down stream.
Yesterday I watched an 80' p-pine float by, and lots more today.
It's been raining for 3 days here, so hopefully it'll be flushed clean for your trip.
Good luck.

Ran it last year and it was above 30k when we put on and dropped over the next few days to the lower 20's if memory serves. Most of the river washed out and a few large holes developed. I think it's Whiplash you need to look out for at high water as it can push you into a wall. Lots of hydraulics that can give you a pretty solid moment. Some laterals start to develop as well. There are still a few good beaches left but nothing like a low water trip. The river is obviously crankin so common sense would tell you not to get to separated from your boat if you dont want to pick it up in Riggins. As stated look out for wood...We had short short days on the water and took off in 3 or 4 days.
Have not heard what happened with the new rapid yet ... wash out?

Hope that helps...have fun!

Recent Main Salmon Report

We just pulled off the Salmon at Carey on Sunday afternoon (June 13). Water level at Corn when we launched was 8.8 ft and 34K.

Nice run. Big in unexpected places. Nothing at unexpected places.

Pay attention to Whiplash and scout Chittam.

If you are familiar with teh campsites at lower flows, remove all beaches and what you have left is what is not underwater.

Campsites that come to mind that are above water are:
Horse Creek, Blackadar, Allison Ranch, Upper and Lower Yellowpine, Groundhog sort of, Bluebird, Warren, Swimming Hole, and Bull Creek...

There are a few others, but those are the ones that I can think of off the top of my head.

Forget a couple of things

Barth camp site was also open...eddy at bottom end.

Black Creek was nothing (although more than Salmon Falls, which is completely gone)...smooth drop, moderate wave train at bottom at this flow...promises to be more interesting when water calms down...

Most of the big 5 rapids buried. Sneak Bailey hard right and should be uneventfull.
Elkhorn big hole center easily missed either side. I believe best run is right.
Chittam nasty, but a good sneak right bank between rock, (if buried good hole) and right bank. Short days!
