Lochsa river Madness

Hello all, I am starting to plan for next year's paddling adventures. I want to be on the Lochsa for Memorial day, and paddle the falls in a raft. I have the raft, but I am a Lochsa newbie and would like to go with some experienced rafters (that know the river). Also, how hard is it to find a camping site up there? I'm in Oregon, so it's a full day drive for me to get there. I have been mostly a low volume inflatable kayaker with lots of river miles and the occasional big river (Payette, Rogue, Deschuttes, Owyhee, Grand canyon a long time ago) Jared

You can reserve camp spots online at wilderness gateway.

Yo man, I plan on heading up to Loch Fest myself, I'm hoping a couple buddies will come along. I know the lines pretty well...I guided up there summer of 2011 and am dying to get back.

As far as campsites wilderness gateway is great (there was a band one of the nights the summer I was up there), three rivers resort has small cabin camping, river dance lodge has campsites to rent as well as water and shower, and I believe there's free camping up the Selway Rd not too sure how far up though...lets hope for 14,000 cfs +

Posts: 794's not hard to find camping up there. It IS very hard, if not impossible, to show up and find a spot at Wilderness Gateway. Most people that stay in WG reserve their sites 6 months in advance. It's a really sweet campground. There's free camping across the river in Wilderness Ghetto...which gets pretty rowdy.

I didn't have the luxury of reserving a site this year and was a little worried about it....for no good reason. There are some awesome campgrounds up the Selway (~20miles downriver from the traditional put in). We found empty camp spots all over the place when we arrived Friday afternoon.

Helluva good time.
