Many years ago I made the float from Iron Gate to Happy Camp in early July. It was the first extended trip with my kids (ages 5 and 6 at the time), so I was looking for something mild.
For safety's sake we walked the kids around Schoolhouse Rapid, Hamburg Rapid, and Savage Rapid. Schoolhouse was a long walk down the side of the highway. We camped five nights along the river, once on an island, once is a rough car camp, and a couple of times within sight of the highway on the opposite shore.
I was running a 14' bucket boat, loaded fairly heavy. I would anticipate no trouble with a 15' raft. There is a good guidebook (which I didn't have when I took my trip) by Quinn & Quinn, "Handbook to the Klamath River Canyon." Long out of print, but you might find a copy on www.half.com
