Joe Wright / Spencer Heights - Sun 6/28

Heading up to the poudre to run Joe Wright and Spencer Heights on sunday. Leaving from denver around 8:30am. Got a couple coming from denver/boulder, want to hook up with a couple more.

Give me a call if you are interested...

Loving the boating right now! Great water all up and down the front range. Get it while its here. High water is short but sweet!

I would love to join you guys on sunday. I've never run either of those 2 runs, but I am an experienced class 5 boater. I'll give you a call tomorrow afternoon when I get off the water here in Buena Vista.

FYI - if you can make it to the ark drainage tomorrow, it is going OFF right now. Numbers went over 3 grand today and clear creek of the ark is over 400.

Either way, have fun out there and hopefully we'll be able to paddle on sunday,

Ian, I met you at CB. I had the big Toy Hauler camper. I'd be in but promised to run the Little SF again. We need to paddle again.

Hey Ian, a few of us ran into you guys at the Spencer Heights takeout yesterday. How was your run?

Glad we saw you guys up there. Fresh wood report helped out to minimize the already sizeable pucker factor. Thanks!

We had a good time, but it took a while. We scouted most of spencer heights and joe wright (glad we did), and it took a very long time.

We put in on Joe Wright about 1/2 mile below carnito canyon. Group wasn't feeling cornholio / carnito, none of us had run it before, water was high, and we made the mistake of reading the funny write up in crcII about the entire crew swimming carnito canyon on the drive up (not so funny when scouting carnito).

Bottom of Joe Wright was lots of fun. I had a BS swim after flipping in a hole and getting pushed up against a rock wall. Bailed, self rescued and stepped out right into an eddy with all my gear. Mellow outcome, but didn't really enjoy snorkeling on joe wright.

Really cool to come hauling ass out of joe wright in a tiny creekbed, and confluence with the big south onto a pushy river.

Spencer went well. Tucked our tails between our legs and walked rocket launcher. Rest of spencer was awesome fun. Big juicy water with pushy moves. Big smiles at the takeout! Cyclotron was huge! Monster boof feature on the left was intimidating... we snuck right channel.

High water on a new run with no one who had done it before was kind of intense. Looking forward to getting back on JW/SH with a little less water with a little less pucker factor. It was a nice adventure figuring it out and working our way down though.

Looking forward to the big south! Should be a good season.

Wow, poudre at high water is the real deal. After running mostly low volume creeks this season, spencer heights got my full undivided attention.

Nice work! Glad you guys had fun. You picked a great weekend to paddle the upper canyon. I suspect yesterday was peak on the BS, so things should start toning down a bit over the next few days. Give a shout if you come back through... flows in the upper canyon should remain good for a little while.
