January GC Flows

Early projections for the January river flow through Grand Canyon is a daily fluctuation between 12,000 and 20,000 cfs. I would be begging to get on someones trip at that flow but instead, have my own permit. I would be interested in talking to any solid boater who might want to participate.

I have been down there for the past 2 years in January. The lowest temps I experienced were in the upper 20's F at night during the first week and the low 70's F for a high below lava. Those mornings are cold for getting on the water early so I always just try to pick camps with early am sun.

Posted below are the average hi-low temps and precip for the North and South Rims and the inner gorge. I intend to utilize camps with maximun sunshine, which might not be much at riverside. I am also looking forward to camps with hiking opps with a layover or two pending what the weather throws my way.

One of the two yahoo grand canyon groups also has a file that lists campsites, which ones have good AM/PM sun and such. Or so I vaguely recall. It's supposed to be great for winter camp planning, if you haven't heard of it.
