Ice in Flagstaff ?
Hi,
I'm working on food and cooler planning for a May Grand Canyon trip. Does anybody know where to buy GOOD ice in Flagstaff? (Meaning hard, solid blocks frozen from water, not the flaked crap in supermarkets). Also, where to buy dry ice? And lastly, anybody know of a supermarket there that will let you store a cooler in their walk in freezer overnight (for pre-chilling)?
Thanks,
Dave

"Good Ice" at Farmers Market on Fourth Street..... Dry ice at Fry's or Albertson's..... Uumm, I cannot say on the last one, however all of the outfitters, Ceiba, Moenkopi and maybe REO have walk-ins. Best of luck!!

Many places have "PINE ICE" they are the best. Also the KOA in Flagstaff has great ice. Pine ice is used at most commercial companies based out of FLag. They sell it in the Chevron right underneath the 40 on Butler.
Good Ice is Good ICe!

Farmers has the Pine Ice. It comes from Pine, Az. It IS the only good ice left in N. Az.... as far as I know.......... Oh Brady at Moe can freeze your cooler, but will need it long before your trip launches to do it right...........

Give the folks at PRO a call, I worked there for a few years and they do an amazing job with the ice. Just ship the coolers a few weeks early and they'll freeze-in three layers of water using their walk in freezers.

As far as I know the KOA on the way out of town is the only place in Flag that sells good ice. Call ahead and make sure they have enough blocks for your entire trip if needed, they probably do and open at around 0800. Albertsons is across the street if you need to shop for meals and they sell dry ice also. Pro will not sell ice unless you buy thier food pack as well.
What a great time to be in the canyon!

FYI Wavester, the Albertsons is about 7 miles west of KOA. Not really across the street. KOA gets their ice from Pine Ice. Same as the Farmers Market on 4th street and numerous other places around town. Moenkopi, I believe, will freeze your cooler WITHOUT food pack order, but maybe a nominal fee. They are also closer to the KOA than to Albertsons!
PS. Say hello to the KPIG for me!!

This is not really an answer to your question, but i found a local butcher that will let me freeze my cooler in their monstrous freeze (size of my house). This is a butcher that focuses on processing game, so it's off season for them. I was told it is important to go in and ask, not call. I think gender may also help.
