Honaker Trail (san juan) access from top?

We are doing a 4-night Mexican Hat-Clay Hills trip in a month.

One member of our group is not able to join us until the following day. We are thinking that meeting him at the bottom of the Honaker Trail would be pretty awesome.

Has anyone accessed Honaker trail from the top? It looks like a long dirt road from Goosenecks State Park? I've hiked the Honaker trail but don't recall if it "went" anywhere at the top.

any info would be appreciated. yes I'm aware that this may cause a permitting snafu but that's a different conversation.

^^^ well that sounds just about perfect. thanks man!

it actually sounds pretty reasonable. a 1.7 mile dirt road and a 2.5 mile trail

As for the other conversation regarding hiking into the San Juan just pay for total trip plus the one and it won't matter if you start your trip with one less then your permit calls for, just don't exceed the the total payed for.... you should be ok.
