Gunnison: Escalante to Whitewater

So, I have a wild hair and have convinced the family that it will be a good weekend for an Escalante to Whitewater early season overnight. We are experienced warmer weather multi-day river trippers but have not run this part of the G before (have run Gunnie Gorge) Any thoughts on this with flows just over a grand, a good campsite, etc. would be really appreciated. Need to get out of the high country to somewhere low!
Thanks in advance,

Its gonna be a lot of rowing and really bony. Best camp is at dominguez canyon, and there is a lot of good hikes there as well. Tunnel point is a lower site, but i would definitely recommend dominguez. The takeout might be tricky, but I've never seen it at this level

Thanks, I am probably dumb as post for wanting to go this early, but I want someone other than my wife to tell me...and this is the place for that!

You should not have any problems, its a great family float. Dominguez is the place to camp. There are some other posts on the subject if you do a search, as well as some good web resources. I would be weary of the weather forecast this weekend, lots of W!

We have done that section specifically when the forecast is for W. If it's from the SW you won't be going directly into it. However, the mouth of Dominguez canyon, last Memorial day, is one of the windiest places I've ever camped.

Yes, the forecast continued to degrade last night as I was getting everything ready, so we have bagged it for this least everything is pulled together and ready to go for when we do get some good weather that falls on a weekend instead of the middle of the week!
