Grand Canyon with 13 y o kids...March 2013
We are ONLY seeking a parent with their 12 to 14 year old kid.
Kids, tell the folks you need skip some school around this spring vacation and join us at the Colorado River for outdoor education!
We have a Grand Canyon private trip permit and are looking for a parent and their 12 to 14 year old kid to fill spots we have open. My wife and I will be taking our 13-year-old son on his first Grand Canyon trip with a fun group of experienced boaters (using dory, rafts and kayaks) from Northern California.
We launch Tuesday March 26, 2013 from Lees Ferry and take off 18 days later on Friday April 12.
If you and your kid…
. Have multi-day whitewater raft trip experience
. Love camping enough that you will do it for 18 days in hot and cold conditions with a smile on your face
. Love camp chores
. Love the Grand Canyon
then, we can talk.
It is important to us that our son has a companion his age for the trip. It is also important to have good group dynamics. Grand trips are long and can try the heartiest of souls. If you or your kid have never experienced river camping on at least a week long trip, then this not your trip.
We will give priority to boaters
with Grand Canyon or big water experience
who live in Northern California so we can meet you
who can bring their own raft or dory or other equipment.
Estimated per person cost including meals, raft and equipment rental and shuttle is $900 per person. All on river costs and camp chores will be shared by the group. A $300 per person deposit is needed to hold your spot once we approve you, and the balance is due February 8. Travel to and from your home to the river is not included and you’ll need to bring your own camp outfit and a dry bag to hold it.
If this sounds like your kind of trip, then please send information about yourself and your kid - including you and your kid’s river experience. Let us know what you can bring to the trip (how would you be productive members of our trip…can you plan menus, cook, row, play music, tell us about the geology, help with organization, administer first aid?
If more than one parent or a sibling wants to come...let's talk. Kayaks and IKs are welcome. too.
A bit about us...this is my second canyon trip as permit holder and third trip down the grand. We have done many trips on the Salmon,Rogue and Green. Our boy likes baseball, plays the violin and is in 7th grade. He'll be doing some independent study work while we are on the river. Our other other participants have rowed down the canyon many times.
We look forward to hearing from you. Please respond off line to...
