Grand Canyon warmup ideas?

hello all!
I'm a kayaker from AK heading down the Grand this January.
I'm looking for a good ww community in the southwest I where I could easily hookup with local paddlers in December for some boating. any ideas?

Arizona will be your only option this time of the year, as everything else will be frozen. What king of kayaking are you looking to do? There is some really good desert creeking down there if you're into that. If you're looking for class III/IV multi days then the salt river would be a really good option. There's also day runs on it as well.

actually... I'm more interested in meeting some fellow paddlers who could show me around and paddle with me for a couple weeks... and I'd surely return the favor in the future if they were ever to make it up to AK.

Arizona would be ideal because I'll need to be in the Flagstaff/Page area by 12/23 anyway... desert creeking sounds fun; since I'll be running the Grand, I'm looking for some more technical water to warm up on.

I'm a solid IV/V paddler but haven't done much boating in the last couple years... hoping to get back into paddle shape before the Grand!

thanks again.

Link up with my buddy Hut Wade from Arizona River Adventures....602.513.1652 also put a post out on AZ Monsoon Warriors site (click here) and let them know whats up...there's a couple of motivated local boaters cruisin around that site.

It all depends on the precip so keep your fingers crossed and your schedule open.
