Grand Canyon spots 7/9/10

Got a cancellation permit for the Grand, July 9 to July 27. We have a core crew of fun liberal folks who have done many rivers together, but we are short of gear boats cuz of the short notice. Still 8 spots left on a 16 person trip, but we need oarsmen to open up the additional spots (we can rent gear boats if needed). If you have the time to get on the Grand this summer and want to row, let me know. Shared cost is approx $800 for 18 days, and roster has to be in by this weekend (June 10). Lets go boat the Grand!

Interested in Your G.C. Trip

Hi Skookum,
Class 4 hardshell kayaker w/13 yrs experience plus 16 hr safety rescue course looking to do G.C. for the first time. Live in Santa Cruz CA; went to UCSB in the 1980's (Mechanical Engineering). Longtime surfer here in Santa Cruz, started whitewater 1997. Had quite a few good adventures including Nepal six rivers, 2001.

Looking to get on G.C., Selway, Jar/Bru, other interesting stuff like that.

Please let me know what's the plan for your trip, and if you still have any openings (for kayaker).

Did you want an oarsman? A surfer? An engineer? Unless he paddles his boat with an oar he must be a really good engineer.
Would love to go and do know my way around oars... been there but I can't function intelligently above 95 degrees

I hope I'm not too late. I just discovered this web site today, although I've been rowing rivertrips since 1985. I have a 15 foot self-bailing NRS, with perfect canyon rig setup and would love to go on your trip. I've got 10 GC trips under my belt (5 private, 5 commercial) on water levels from 8000-30,000+ cfs and everything inbetween. I love to row, especially heavy boats (bailers are like sails in the wind) and play guitar and sing; really, I'm a professional musician on land. Please let me know if I'm too late to add to your trip...I live in Colorado, near Boulder; 2-3 day drive, and I've done trip logistics for many , many river trips.
Call me; (303) 642-0823 or email me at
Happy floating!

Hey Skookum,

We have an 8-person permit for the Grand putting on the same day as you. Looks like our river schedules are pretty similar. You might describe us as fun and "liberal" too - at least for Idaho. I think we're the only democrats in the state. At any rate, we'll see you at Lees Ferry and will say "howdy!"

Have fun with the logistics. Sometimes I think the hard part is getting ready. Running the river is the easy part.

Viva la Vida
