Could be in for a Gilman run as well, if the snow and rain that is forecasted tonite thru tomorrow nite doesn't shut it down. Water level has been on a downward trend since mid day yesterday. Hopefully it will level off and maybe climb a bit today. According to NOAA, could be a couple of inches of new snow on the ground up here tomorrow. Give me a call at 970 390 5076 if you are heading over.

Full melt down happening here are 10,500 feet. Does look like some thunderstorms rolling around. It is for sure warmer than the last 3 days.

Gore?

Did you guys hit gore on Fri.? How was it? When I looked down the Blue River valley on Fri. afternoon it looked cold and snowy.

The powder was nice at the basin on Sat. More to come tonight (3-6 forecasted.) Hopefully stuff will be melting again by next weekend.

Yo TK, Gilman dropped out/it was snowing sat/sun. We ran the Gore on fri - the weather was cold, but that flow was hot. 2600-2700 or so. Pyrite was still good on the left. Gore rapid went, but scared me off. The best line of the day was two rapids above Tunnel with the big boof. The boof was gone, but in it's place was a pile-driving rooster - full on WWF style boating. I did see the pow at the basin sat, but we drove on by for a bluebird day on Bailey - low I know, but we did hit up the Top 10 Bailey eddies!
Joe

Thoughts for thursday? It's the first day of the TVF.

Joe. Sunday on Gilman actually turned out better than expected. Warm day kept the river from getting too low. It was between 250 and 300 cfs and rising when I got on it in the evening. Surprisingly not too bony. I've definitely paddled it lower. It'll run for quite a while this year, no melt coming off of the north side of Notch Mtn (Fall Creek) yet. Give me a call when you're back up this way. Afterwork/evening run works best for me.

Glad you got on Gore. Would love to get on Gore in 2000's. It's been a long time (1997?). How was Kirschbaum's? Did you run the "creek sneak" on the far left at Pyrite or off the left side of the main ledge? Personally I'll wait for warmer weather, though.

Yo TK, not sure about the creek sneak on pyrite. Maybe it wasn't high enough? We pounded the left side of the hole. Christian tried to go right, but got throughly rejected (thank god?). Glad to hear the day on gilman was good. I thought 350 was the min?

Future plans: Thursday - another high Gore day? It's the first day of the TVF, so I'll be gettin out.

I'm off from this saturday the 17th until monday the 26th. I'll be at Paddlefest on sat/sunday and then it's on. Ideas? Who's hungry?

Hey Joe,

What are the top ten eddies in Bailey? I'm guessing four are in Superman, two in Deer Hunter (top only), and one in the pool at first falls. That's only 7. River left above first falls is eight. It appears you are catching two entirely unneeded eddies...

1. Below 1st falls.
2. River right immediately at the bottom of 2nd falls (low water only).
3. River right above 3rd falls for the ferry move.
4. The C.Mo right-left-right three eddy line through Eye of the Needle.
5. River right below the first hole in the Max (highish water only).
6. River left Superman ferry eddy.
7. River right Tampax setup eddy.
8. River right after the first drop in Deer Hunter.
9. The disappearing eddy river right in the class III+ below Deer Creek.
10. The mystery eddy river left between the big boulders of the very last drop (class IV?). Be careful on this one as the water comes up. There is a log pinned to the bottom boulder and if you miss the move, you get slammed into it.

Not quite Slater, but it makes for a nice sat/sun jaunt. But you are right, there are some unneeded eddies in there....Speaking of which, what's your fastest Bailey time - seems like you and Frontrange had a quick Blue Angel. We ran it in 2.5 hours with me, a 2nd timer, and two newbies. Not record setting, but pretty quick at 250. Christian fired the Man with only verbals and eddy catching - Maria also got her first Max D. The Mank Crew is already gettin after it!

you're missing one--a "birthday eddy" like eddy--haven't caught it yet, but was going to fire it up if not working on sun. the eddy in between the two boulders, river right, in super max. basically directly across from you as you sit in the ferry set up eddy--it's only purpose will be to make the rapid dicey. if its still running this weekend, maybe we'll find out...
