Fort Collins - 6/22/09

2 friends and I are heading to Fort Collins tomorrow. Any suggestions where/what to paddle? We are looking for III+ or IV. Any help is appreciated.

Because I like to help fellow boaters out I'm not going to rip into you when I suggest the Cache La Poudre, at least if you want something super close. Otherwise Clear Creek near Golden is good alternative within a still reasonable distance. I suggest you check out the Flows link at the top of the page though for beta. Bear in mind we tend to rate things slightly easier than back East. Also, if you have more questions, please read through those run descriptions first before asking so you ask more appropriate questions based on your skills, time, and interests. People around here are usually helpful, but it does help if you've done at least some research ahead of time.

A rare display of restraint on the buzz, and on a Monday no less! I will assume that you knew the Poudre was in the Fort's backyard and you were looking for specific suggestions for a stretch on the Poudre? If the level holds (or hopefully bumps up) Upper Mish is a really fun run. You will be stoked if you have solid rolls and decent class IV skills. You might be a little gripped if you are still in the III+ range. CO Patrick is right though do a little homework first and maybe post in the trip/planning section if you find a stretch and you want someone to rally with.

Sorry for being vague. Yes, this much we knew. I did research before we got here and my "Colorado Rivers & Creeks" is already beginning to show signs of wear. I was nervous about the difference between E vs W ratings plus we are in all rented gear.

Based on "the book" we were going to head to Upper Mish but I wanted to get the locals point of view.

if you want a full day of boating, do upper mish to BTO. if you want a shorter day, do upper and lower mish. good waves at the current level and some great river running. you won't be disappointed.
By the waterside I will lay my head.
Listen to the river sing sweet songs to rock my soul.
