I just spent the last hour researching the weather that got Escalante going good last Friday compared to where we are now. Looks like good flows were due to 3 of 5 days above 70 degrees prior to April 22 (Friday) and a five day average 24 hr temp of greater than 55 degrees with night temps above freezing. Unfortunately the last 6 days in Delta have only had one day above 60 degrees (yesterday) and an average 24 hr temp in the mid 40's with night temps the last two nights below freezing. To make matters worse NOAA is forecasting freezing temps tonight as well as day/night temps of 49/26 Saturday, 56/31 Sunday, and 62/34 Monday. Last but not least at this time the total of the Delta-GJ-Uncompahgre= approximately 850 cfs. This info leads me to believe that if Escalante is running low now it’s not gonna get any better (probably worse) over the weekend.
Please tell me I'm wrong! I had plans to head that way tomorrow morning as I’m guessing many an Escalante aficionado had also. I guess there is always gore. I mean GORE! Nice and padded at 1800 CFS and rising. Who’s with me!?! I know Bank will go.
I would still trust a direct report more than my amateur meteorology so if you get a chance to see the gorge let us know.
