The best way to ski Eldora, most of the time, is just like any other resort. Get first chair and cut the cord until it's gone which is usually about noon on weekends. Same for pow but obviously the good skiing last longer depending on how much comes down. There is some good tree skiing to be had on West Ridge but that does not come in until later in the season. The big knock on Eldora is the wind, short runs and the crappy lift off the front side of the mountain. But some years I have seen it mild up there. Last season they had as good a base as any summit county resort until late in the season.
I live in Boulder and skiing that little resort is nice with the correct mind set. Nice easy drive up and cut turns until about noon or early afternoon. Then head back in town for early happy hour or at home in time to get some work done around the shanty. A few times a year they get a big dump and the place is a gas. Was it last year where it didn't snow in summit county and dumped at Eldora and it got so crowded up there they had to turn people away?
As far as the comparison to loveland goes; Loveland has more and better terrain and still has that local feel to it.
