I probably don't have time for this, but out of curiosity... Has anyone put in at Ouray and floated to Sand Wash? Does this ease the drive to the put-in? Is there camping?
there are other threads discussing this worth checking out. i have used river runners and thought they did a great job. i've also used red tail aviation for an air shuttle and that is a unique shuttle if you have some folks up for some extra driving, depending on which direction your coming from. cost was about the same +/- coming from the north.
big difference is drivers have to drop boats/gear off at put in for air shuttle, then continue driving for another 8+/- hours to green river town, camp or hotel and be at green river airport by 7am. everyone else rigs boats, relaxes, parties and waits for drivers to show up in morning. it's a 2 mile hike from airstrip on butte to launch site. the flight is pretty spectacular....once.
if you use river runners, everyone can show up at the put in and be done with the shuttle. rig, camp, relax, float and have your vehicles delivered to the take out (they take the long, but easier on your vehicle route) and you do not have to worry about weather screwing up the air shuttle.
if you use red tail, you still have to hire drivers to get your vehicles from airport to take out, which is reasonable.
having done it both ways, i would not do the extra driving myself but it seems someone always wants to volunteer to fly. it never seems to be their car they're driving though.
