Lodore was flushed this week, which affects Deso obviously. I would expect bugs now that the water starts to drop. Bring a ton of spray and be prepared, then the bugs won't bug you

Took out yesterday. The little black flies were very annoying in the lower half of the canyon, and they do in fact bite some people. My uncle was in his bug suit for the last two nights at Wire Fence 2 and Nefertitti to keep them away. They left the rest of us alone, other than swarming around our heads all night.

I launched on the 20th and took off on the 26th, right in the middle of the peak and extremely warm at night. There were a few mosquitos at the put-in but I never even had to wear bug spray. There were some no-seeums in the lower canyon but they were just out at night.

Not thinking there is going to be much of a bug year this summer. None of the backwaters where filled and there has been little to no rain. Always smart to bring spray though.

We also took out yesterday. Some in our party got nailed pretty good with the no-see-ums when we stopped for lunch or camped at night. I brought baby oil, which we have used successfully in the past to "drown" them and then scrape them off, but no one wanted to dose up, preferring to get bit, I guess. Flow was dropping every day.

With the recent flush from Flaming Gorge, I feared the mosquitoes would start coming on. We launched June 2 and took off June 7. We didn't see a single mosquito. There were pesky gnats, but we didn't encounter any that bite. We did have a few deer fly bites, but not many.

We came off June 6th so not sure if it's relevant, but there were NO bugs. The wind blew them to Colorado. There were some gnats at some sites, but they didn't bite, just annoying. Worst was Mushroom.

If you lean over to watch the river slipping slowly away beneath you, you will suddenly know everything there is to be known. Winnie the Pooh
