denver area early season

I am new to denvera, what areas will open up nearby for me to paddle. I have been looking at south platte. I plan to go to the royal gorge this month, but that is a lot of commitment. Also my packraft is in need of repair and my kayaks are old, so I probably can't elf.

Waterton on South Platte, Shoshone on Colorado, Gore Canyon on Colorado, Westwater on Colorado (Permit), Numbers and Royal Gorge (+play parks) on Arkansas.

That's about it as far as winter boating in CO. Not all of those are especially close. NM gets winter flows on the Rio Grande sometimes but I think you need to watch the guages and rely on Taos locals beta.

Cross Mountain on the Yampa has some early season (April) potential if you're at a level to tackle it at low / reasonable flows in a packraft. But it's not exactly Denver area either.

Ski until April, then paddle the aforementioned runs. There's some occasional early season releases on Bailey, and every so often on Lower South Boulder, but that's about it.

Just jumping in to second waterton canyon on the south platte. Just heard of a couple people running it yesterday and they said it was good. Is 310 now I'd say that is definitely low but not ELF. Just check the flow page here for current flow and run description as it is dam controlled.

I cant believe I missed Waterton Sunday! What a great run to start the season. For early season waterton, keep an eye on below Cheeseman flows when you head up there. They were releasing over the weekend, but have since turned down the tap. Waterton is headed back down below 300, which is many people's personal minimum.
