I was thinking of doing a Deckers run on either Saturday or Sunday while the water stays up and wanted to see if anyone wanted to join in. I got my daughter into boating this season and she feels she is up for the chutes, so anyone that would like to help out or enjoy the run let me know. (303)257-6462.
Hey guys, I'll run the Chutes with you on Sunday as well. I'm running the Lower Blue with Scott and others on Saturday too.
What time did you all plan on meeting and where for Deckers?
I'm pretty sure that there is plenty of room for you to join in on to run Lower Blue, I don't see that being a problem.

Hey Alex,
Glad you are coming along. We usually meet at 9:30 at the bridge, but anytime works for me. My daughter has not swam yet, though we have done the upper Decker's run up to otter slide several times. Hopefully she swims the shoots once just so she knows what to expect. On the other hand she does have good balance and would not be surprised if she runs it well. But it makes me much more comfortable knowing there will be others on the water.
I am excited about the Lower Blue... It is was my favorate river last year. As of now I will plan on going, but there is any issues let me know and I will plan on the next one.

Thanks again,

9:30 at the Bridge works great for me!! See you all there!
That's awsome that your daughter has not swam yet and has great balance/edge control. I've definately swam in Deckers already, and kinda swam the second chute only due to stupidity on my part. HAHA. Even swimming in a wave train will kinda give her an idea what to expect too.
Yeah, I always feel more comfortable when there's more people on the river as well...that whole "Safety in Numbers" kinda thing. I'm sure things will be fine though.
As far as the Lower Blue, what should I expect? I've never run it before, and was kinda wondering about the Drops/waterfalls/Dams...and that Last drop that's supposed to be a cascading chute of some sort??? Any advice before getting on the river would be helpful. Scott and I , and a group of others did Eleven Mile last sunday, so I'm feeling really confident being on the water and ready for whatever is going to be thrown at me.
Thanks, and if we don't see you saturday, I will see you all on Sunday!
The lower blue is great! Once you are in the canyon, there is no way out except to finish the run. I have not run it this year, but here is what I remember. I starts off with some small bolder gardens that you can work on some maneuvering. The first couple of rapids are like that. Somewhere in there is a decent surf wave that is fun to play on. There is a big chute like rapid that has some large lateral waves. There are two manmade dams that are about a three foot drop but the entry is clean. You can ferry easily across the river in front of these drops to find a good line. I always took river left. The center was rockier.
The hardest part of this river is the cold. This river is by far the coldest river that I have paddled. I would bring gloves. I forgot mine on the first run last year and my hands were numb.
I hope I am remembering everything correctly but I do remember it had great scenery.

Alex you should see Dave's 10 year old boy. He's a natural and fearless. The first day on moving water at Deckers he just peels out of the eddy and ferries across the river, then turns around and ferries back. in a few years we won't be able to catch him.

LOL!! He'll probably have sponsors like Jackson, Werner, Dagger, Shred Ready, etc in a couple of years too! HAHA...Kids pick things up so much more quicker than us.
I'll be out there saturday with you all, but I'm not sure if I'll paddle...my elbow started bothering me in the pool tuesday night, and I think I may have hurt my shoulder at Eleven Mile too. It hurts to put pressure/weight on it, and hurts to rotate/stretch it. It even hurt to carry my backpack around campus this week. I'll play it by how it feels, but I'll still definately paddle with you guys on Sunday.
