Ryan and I ended up running Pinnacle Rock -> Five Points. It was short, but all we needed to be mentally, physically, and spiritually exhausted!! It was amazing to get in the river and meet a great group of people here on the buzz.
Since it was my first time on the river, I learned a ton. I was surprised how much the wind affected paddling, and I was also shocked to find myself more comfortable in the rapids where the water was higher and flowing free above the rocks. Bottoming out threw my balance and I learned that more than anything, I need to learn how to anticipate and not be reactive the whole time. I DO have to say though, I am pretty proud of a 360 degree boof spin type thing...planned, of course!
THANKS LENNY, ANTHONY, SCOTT, SCOTT, CURTIS and everyone else! There were 8 kayakers that drove from across the state to spend their paddling time teaching us the basics and cleaning up after our swims (one learning to ferry 2 minutes after putting in, and one in an eddy! haha)
I couldn't have asked for a better virgin experience. THANK YOU!
