He is new to the sport I have been Kayaking for about 3 years now. Otherwise, if you're looking at spending much time coming to CO to boat, you might want to pick up Colorado Rivers and Creeks (CRC). Beyond that, you'll head out on Hwy 14, west, toward Cameron Pass. Take out for filter plant is Picnic Rock...it is marked by a sign. Put in isn't really marked, but it's below the filter plant (hence the name), and there is parking on the opposite side of the road, and a wooden staircase that drops into the water. It's all pretty straight forward, mostly II type stuff. One drop, mad dog, is considered III, I guess, but it's quite short. At higher water, you can stay river right and avoid the two larger rocks, or you can just split them.
