Anyone running Cataract the last week in July?

We're launching on the 23rd, running the rapids on or around the 25th.

Not necessarily looking to hook up w/ another group for the whole trip (esp. as permits are there for the taking) but we'd be psyched to know there'd be other boats on the water for the big drops. (We're looking at a one boat trip.)

Also- has anyone used IOI for a shuttle?

I am hoping to be putting on the 22nd and we should be around the rapids on the same day- the 25th. We are looking at a 2 boat trip, as of right now. Also, does anyone know of another put in a little further down river where we might be able to pick up some laggers???
Any info would be great,

There is absolutely no civilization below potash for 115 miles. You must be your own liquor store.

There are a couple of access points down from Potash I believe, though most or all require rather involved/severe 4wd, and some are really not practical (miles of hiking to the river) which is why everyone just uses Potash instead. Not worth the trouble?

What I've heard about put-ins below Potash:
You could look at driving into Laythrop (spelling?) which comes in on river right. I sometimes see jeeps there, and it's popular enough it has a composting toilet there by the river.

I know there is 4wd access into the maze near the confluence (atop the canyon), but then you'd need to hike the rafts and gear several miles downhill to the river (i.e. not worth it). This hike is strenuous, potentially sketchy, and possibly exposed without a backpack, let alone hauling gear. Would be much more dangerous than the rapids. This is also on river right.

I heard someone mention the other day that there may be a 4wd trail near the confluence on river left..

I recommend simply sticking to Potash.

Gunnargus, Assuming your stragglers are just passengers, they could hike in from the Needles District (East side) on the Lower Red Lake trail in a few hours carrying a light daypack. But no gear. The bigger question would be to get them in at Spanish Bottom from the Confluence overlook trail. It doesn't look like you can get down there on the map, but it might be possible. Maybe someone out there knows for shure.

You could have the stragglers catch a jet boat ride from either Moab or Green River to Spanish Bottom and meet you there.

You can hike to Spanish Bottom thru the Dolls House, but after driving time (4wd roads) and logistics it may make more sense to use a jet boat shuttle if you have time constraints.
