I'm going to be in Montana the next couple weeks (my home state, though I currently reside in Colorado) and am looking to do some runs, primarily to get my kids in their boats and to get some practice with some Class II (and maybe III) stuff. Would like something that isn't flowing too heavy or fast, but still allows for some technical/creeking practice. Would ideally like an area 1/2 mile long we can run, portage back up, and run again for practice, practice, practice!
My dad has a cabin in Neihart so I'm looking at Belt Creek, along 89 there, but am not sure if that's just too slow or the access is too difficult. Any recommendations on the Belt would be appreciated. Also if anyone has input on any other rivers/creeks I should look into, I'd appreciate it.
I plan on going scouting Friday or Saturday of this week so beers on me for any advice offered. Thanks.
