It was definitely a learning experience, showing other people down for the first time. I have shown people down comparatively easy stuff, but never anything like Bailey and when my lines are all off on top of that... I've helped show people down Class V stuff but always with other people who've also run it. Having the buck stop with me, more or less, was definitely interesting!
Glad no one was hurt, no loss of gear, etc.
No one's going to mind you portaging the V's. I've never paddled First Falls or Supermax, or with a group that just wanted to paddle it blind. I've always scouted Deer Creek, even though I run the sneak every time. I could see someone just wanting to read and run it, but I can't think of anyone who would not take you down, simply for wanting to scout and portage a few things. I paddle with friends like that all the time. The friend that portages might be the friend that saves your life, right?
I think I'll make it to Baileyfest this year; maybe I'll see you there! Shame Dave will be gone.
