AZ or NM runs in late Feb?

We want to go hit the salt a few days before the permit season, but it looks like it may not be running. What else is running down south this time of year?

You might not have many options this year. Rafter or kayaker? Fossil Creek always goes, Verde may be an option...could do a low water run on Racecourse or Lower Box on the Rio Grande if your a kayaker...Whiterock Canyon could be an option as well.

GARNA’s mission is to foster stewardship of the resources of the greater Arkansas River region through education, volunteerism and experiences.

thanks for the tips, we are 3 kayakers who want to self support on the Salt but think it may not run. Trying to work on backup plans... Lower Taos box seemed like a decent option.

Might be out of your specified location, but the Owyhee in southern Oregon is running right now, and would be a pretty comparable self-support.

American Whitewater - 1. Three Forks to Rome, Owyhee Oregon, US

The drawback, of course, is that it'll be a cold expedition: Rome, Oregon (97910) Conditions & Forecast : Weather Underground

But the word is that it's a pretty spectacular canyon with quality whitewater (plus no permit), so with a drysuit and a good sleeping bag, it might fit the needs of an early season trip. It's always been on my list; I just haven't made it out there yet.

I'd prefer the Salt too (60 degrees vs 45), the other math doesn't favor AZ (144cfs vs 1,250 in the Owyhee).

Hope it works out - if so, have a great trip....

salt is at 201 cfs this AM - not many other options so we decided to bank the days for a later trip.

thank you for your posts and info!
