Thanks for helping out, Ian.
We had 18 paddlers show up (Ian was the one who was smart enough to get an accurate count before the flotilla set sail). We had plenty of first-timers and plenty with just a few Black Rock runs under their belt. We even had someone who had Derk guide them down for their first run way back when.
We teamed up each first-timer with a mother goose veteran and I think things went about as safely as they can with a group of 18 of mixed abilities.
Everybody made it down safely and I know for a fact that some of the first timers were stoked to the limit, having made their first Black Rock run.
That was the biggest group of kayakers I have ever seen on Black Rock and I think it was a fitting tribute to Derk's spirit of helping others to step up in this sport we all love.
