I think there is a reasonable chance of boating during ski season, if you are willing to drive a bit. I still have not missed a month this year. Ran browns in january, upper c february,
and had an awesome trip on san juan, mexican to clay hills in march.
Watching weather patterns and taking advantage of the unseasonably warm spells helped.
All way's research the boatability of a stretch first, so you don't get blocked in by ice, or have an ice damn break loose up a side canyon when it is warming up quick.
A dry suite is not a bad idea, as is running a stretch well with in your ability's, since a swim could be very dangerous.
It's better to make the longer drive down stream, warmer weather and less danger of ice, Ice ledges and flow's can KILL you.
Am really digging the longer boating season, even if your not making it out in the middle of winter, there usually are some really nice day's in late spring where you can find boating if it is important enough to you to get on the water, SOME where.
Have fun, and be safe if you get out this winter!
P.S. Have fun at the beav, some awesome skiing there dispite all them rich folks, those fools don't like powder!!
