I just wrote a long trip report about showing up to run an overnighter in the Narrows on Monday and getting shut out by the closure, only to press "submit new thread" and being told I had to log on again. Lost the whole friggin thing. Too late to do over and I already wrote it once...
I'm bummed. I've wanted to catch that run for many years and I thought I'd finally put it together...
I'll just say. Even if its not a back country slot canyon run, someone in each group should have a headlamp, a breakdown, a lighter, extra food, at least a space blanket etc.
Also, the woman I dealt with at the back country desk was a boater and quite sympathetic. She wanted to know where I got my info about the run mentioning a new guidebook that seemed to "understate the run". She said while, "the run was class 3, it took class 5 skills to run it safely". I think she overstated it but it would seem to take more than class 3 experience to manage the exposure and one had better be bomber as a class 3 boater.
I had a beautiful day on the main run in the valley with all the tourists but having a middle aged woman opine about whether I should run a class 2 rapid was a little different than the solo overnight quest I was hoping for.
