hi,
someone on the thread about So.Platte below Chatfield recomended a run out by Commerce City and Brighton as being good for beginners. We heard the same rumor about 8-10 years ago,I think it was that damn Johnny from Confluence(just kidding great guy but bad info)told us.We put in in duckies up around 84th i think,as we were gearing up an older ******* couple rode up on atv's and asked what we were doing"oh, are we tresspassing "Isaid dumbly, as I climbed the barbed wire fence. They said they guessed it was alright if we went ahead"just close the gates so the cows don't get out and watch for quicksand".nothing was mentioned of what lay downstream.
upon launching while wiggling/seal launching offthe bank i accidently whacked my buddy's brand new non waterproof GPS he was tinkering with out off his hand into the ducky floor where some water had got in ,luckily it was ok.light bickering ensued.
The water was completely flat ,but a nice riparian environment at first. Then came an ungodly smell that would permeate every olfactory cell for miles! It was some sort of manure manufacturing place, when we came to the only drop ,a concrete ramp with an ok looking hole at the bottom, there were 2 entire cottonwood tree strainers and the eddies had 2 ft. tall piles of frothing fecal foam and garbage, so we had to portage the only drop.Take out was ADAMScounty fairgrounds,it might be nice below here ,call me skeptical!
