worlds most dangerous sports

apparently whitewater rafting gets 5 skulls but heli-skiing gets 7 skulls.

colorado gets a shout out for both plus rock climbing (also 5 skulls).

I thought reentering my vehicle while pumping gas and risking static electricity was the most dangerous thing I did. Some might not consider it "sport".

While I consider myself a pretty competent class V boater, I am a much better skiier, and IMO, paddling is quite a lot more dangerous than skiing. To be honest, skiing, even at a high level, generally isn't all that dangerous.

They are probably including heli-skiing in that list because they only know it from Warren Miller movies.

thats really laughable. 90% of heli ski trips dont get past anything tougher than a blue run. all the heli action we see in movies, all the extreme skiing, is maybe 10% or 15% of the total number of heli ski trips given ever year.

i think this article is just another re-inforcement of people underestimating the dangers of whitewater. people thinking rafting is a disneyland ride where everyone is safe and if you fall out they just turn it off for a minute.

granted, ive had more injuries skiing than kayaking, but i was skiing at a local resort, not dropping 5 large to go on a helicopter....

well the whole graphic was funded by an insurance company I think even though they cite 'sources' for the stats. I wonder if I get a 15 skull risk rating for doing 3 sports?

Everyone knows that creekboating is the most hard-core, dangerous, super bad ass sport around....and I'm sure if there was a creekboater that worked at that insurance company, he'd be sure to tell his boss that creekboating is so hairy and bad ass, and I gaurantee that after all the bro bra talk about how bad ass creekboating is, it would be on that list with 11 f'in skulls.
How the hell did street luging even get on there anyway? They might as well include anal spelunking and rollerblading.

You'll be glad whitewater boating is rated so low when you go to find your own life insurance. Not only would it raise your rate, it might make it less available. Sometimes being not-so-rad is actually good. Q-ship all the way.
