There are lots of reasons... check out the video. Some of the reasons not in the video are...
1) AW memebers are 76% more successful when doing a rain dance
2) AW members are 62% more attractive to the opposite sex than non members.
3) AW members hitch shuttles 48% faster than non members.
4) AW members boof 17% bigger than non members.
5) AW members save the world... one river at a time.
Last year I was living in Texas. There was no boating. There was no rain. Then I purchaced my Lifetime Membership to AW!
Since then, I found myself living in the Southeast and we're having one of the best rain/fall boating seasons of recent memory! I now lay sic fiddler crab booofs all over the Green River. Concidence? I think not...
Also, AW members have larger members than non-members members. So there's that. Support AW. Oh, and you can also help support AW by submitting a video or photos to the National Paddling Film Festival, so we can turn around and give them an even bigger check at Gauley Fest next year (this year we donated $4000). Or just stop by and drink beer with lots of AW members and compare members.
whoaaa, whoaa, whoaa.... I thought the only reason was for the cool sticker to go with your cool bailey fest sticker.
Had i only known about all these other great bennifits i would have joined sooner.
Good as a stocking stuffer for those boaters you just can't convince to drop their hard earned beer fundage...plus, you get an extra 10% on your boof and the ladies will love your philanthropic side.
Another member benefit... you get the AW journal. Lots of cool pics, good stories, updates on conservation issues, Charlie Walbridges safety reports, and more. Great content!
Another interesting tidbit. AW has online journal magazines back to 1955! AW has the history of whitewater boating at your fingertips. Pretty cool. The journal archive kept me sane the year I broke my arm snowboarding.
I fully believe in supporting AW with a membership but since this was brought up I challenge paddlers to take it a step further. About a year ago I was reading the AW journal and I noticed there is a page that shows all the major sponsors of AW which is what really keeps them afloat. I was deciding between two U.S companies to buy some gear and liked each product the same and even the price was about the same and so I’ve now decided that a company that is on the sponsorship list with AW deserves my business more than the other. There are even different levels of sponsorship so you can see which company puts out the most dough and even those that keep it up year after year. I’m not sure that the levels really matter but its interesting to see where a company stands and what it is willing to do for what most of us believe in.
Getting an AW membership is great but these companies that are throwing down thousands of dollars per year to AW deserve our support.

Good point A. you can also look for your friend's names in the list of smaller contributors.
I'd love to see more of them there. Mine hasn't been on that list in many years. Maybe this year...
