Why cant we hold onto our paddles

why is it every day I get on the buzz there are 53 more "I lost my paddle" sob stories? I feel for all 1,862 people out there that lost their $450 dollar paddles I really do, but why does it seam this year everyone has lost a paddle or ten?
Just food for thought..
Patrick

I think the quality of the whitewater is directly proportional to the number of lost paddles. It's a good year in Colorado. The eddyflower flow page is a nice resource, but reading the lost paddle posts is just as accurate in my opinion.

I've been thinking about that too because I already lost 2 this season (and both were returned by Mtn Buzzards who were rewarded bountifully... thanks).

Here is my take on it:

I used to hold onto mine when I only paddled in the III/IV range. Now, when I swim it is in the IV/V range and it is often associated with a beating and a struggle to avoid foot entrapment or some other awful death while I flail to the nearest safe spot. I am not even conscious of my paddle anymore when I am pulling the rip cord. I just say oh fuck here I go again.

Maybe I'll try to think about my paddle next time... but I bet I'll forget.

What he said.
Last swim I took, I was pretty much giving it 100% just trying not to die and get to shore. Holding on to a $200 paddle was the least of my worries.

Hmmm. blurredelevens. If this is who I think it is, we must go play, soon.
